Company Files Application for Certification With Public Utility Commission of Texas
October 7, 1997 Dallas, TX -- Allegiance Telecom, Inc., announced its
selection of Dallas as its headquarters today in a meeting with the
Dallas City Council and Mayor Ron Kirk. The company has leased more
than 40,000 square feet at INFOMART to house its corporate
headquarters and the digital switch for its Dallas/Fort Worth network.
Allegiance Telecom is a competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) and
plans to offer a full suite of telecommunications services, including local
exchange, long distance, international calling, high speed data
transmission and Internet services in 20 major metropolitan areas
across the United States. Its first network will be in the Dallas/Fort
Worth Metroplex with services offered across most areas of Dallas, Fort
Worth, Irving, Grand Prairie, Arlington, Richardson, Addison, Plano and
other areas. Allegiance has filed its application for certification with the
Public Utility Commission of Texas and has begun engineering and
design of its Dallas/Fort Worth network. Initial service is scheduled to
commence in the first quarter of 1998.
In making the announcement, Tony Parella, vice president and general
manager of Allegiance Telecom of Texas, stated, "The high level of
economic activity and tremendous growth of Internet usage in the
Metroplex have produced an overwhelming and unsatisfied demand by
businesses for reliable, high-quality telecommunications services.
Allegiance will supply its customers with true one-stop shopping for all
their communications needs---packaged with unique consolidated
billing arrangements and superior customer service."
Allegiance chairman and CEO Royce J. Holland added, "I am pleased
to announce that Allegiance Telecom is the first nationwide competitive
local exchange carrier to be headquartered in Texas. Mayor Kirk,
Councilman Stimson, the City Staff and the Dallas Chamber of
Commerce have been very helpful to us and have created the nation's
premier business climate for telecommunications and other high
technology industries. Allegiance will deploy its network facilities to take
full advantage of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 to bring its
Metroplex customers a high-quality choice and flexible new solutions."
Holland, the former president of MFS Communications Company, was
an industry leader in developing the competitive provisions of the 1996
Act, which opened the $90 billion local exchange market to competition
throughout the United States.
In welcoming Allegiance Telecom to Dallas, Mayor Ron Kirk stated, "I
am thrilled about their decision in making Dallas their corporate home.
We are proud for having had the opportunity to work with Royce and
Tony. Allegiance has selected an outstanding location to grow their
business, and the city of Dallas has gained a great addition to its
business community."
Rick Douglas, president of the Greater Dallas Chamber adds,
"Allegiance's decision to locate in the city of Dallas is great for the
community. We're glad we had the opportunity to work with them and
look forward to a long standing partnership"
